If you would like to share your new research work with PREMIA members, please email to kanmy@comp.nus.edu.sg. *PREMIA short course* Following the success of our last short course, we are pleased to announce a short course for "Digital Image Processing Fundamentals: Theory and Applications", sponsored by TechSourceto be offered as follows: Instructor: Dr Terence Sim Date: 12-14 July (3x7 hours: 9.00 am-1.00 pm, 2.00pm-5.00pm) Venue: Programming Lab 2, S15 02-14, School of Computing, NUS Abstract: This short course provides an introduction to basic image processing techniques with some exposure of the latest advanced development. The course aims at strengthening the attendees the fundamental principles in image acquisition, image processing and manipulation to better serve effective application of these techniques in real applications. Some real-life examples will be used to reinforce the teaching. Matlab/C instructions implementing the image processing techniques will be demonstrated to the attendees. Hands-on sessions are planned to reinforce the principles learned in the course. Attendees can contact the instructor before July if they wish their own images to be used in their hands-on session as well as the objective of processing these images. Registration is limited and only a limited number of seats are still open for the course. Click hereto get more information and registration instructions. *AGM 2006 cum Members' Night in August* The 2006 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August is approaching. This year, we would like to make it a special event by organizing it as a Members' Night. All members (full members as well as student members) are invited free of charge to the event which will be held on 11 Augus (Friday) at Antica Room I, level 2, Orchard Parade Hotel, 1 Tanglin Road. We will begin the night with a talk entitled "Data Mining Demystified" by Prof. Koh Hian Chye, Dean, School of Business, SIM University. A limited number of copies of Prof. Koh's book on Data Mining will also be given to attending members that night subject to availability of stock by courtesy of Prof. Koh. After the talk, members are invited to a buffet dinner while we will also conduct the AGM plus election at the same time. Further details about the registration the AGM/Members' Night will be sent to members nearer the date. Also, this is the election year for our AGM.
